My research areas are defined by the intersection of feminisms and technical communication. Feminist Technical Communication explores just that intersection and many of the sites of confluence—healthcare, risk, environmental rhetorics—for these two disciplines. This book builds upon my 2013 dissertation “Theorizing an Apparent Feminism in Technical Communication,” which won the Conference on College Composition and Communication Outstanding Dissertation Award in Technical Communication. My work has appeared in Computers and Composition, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Technical Communication Quarterly, Programmatic Perspectives, and Peitho: Journal of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric & Composition. (My older publications can be found under the surname Frost.) The same theoretical commitments that inform my research also guide my teaching; I hope my students describe me as fair, collaborative, curious, and open-minded.

Someone to watch! I especially like her response to the “next time” rhetoric near the end of the article. For so long, women have been socialized to step aside to make room for men to do the work of government–but men aren’t doing a great job, so that’s coming to an end. Qualified women are now stepping up instead of stepping aside. That can only be good for everyone!
