While I dislike the rhetoric of men having taken pay cuts “for her,” the actions this article discusses by some men in Hollywood is laudable. I’d say they took pay cuts in the name of equality, as I assume they would have taken the cut for any similarly qualified woman rather than, as the headline seems to imply, as a special favor for this specific woman (Emma Stone). Regardless, this is good news and I’m excited she’s talking about it. If more men behaved this way, we would achieve equal pay for equal work faster–and that benefits everybody.

My research areas are defined by the intersection of feminisms and technical communication. Feminist Technical Communication explores just that intersection and many of the sites of confluence—healthcare, risk, environmental rhetorics—for these two disciplines. This book builds upon my 2013 dissertation “Theorizing an Apparent Feminism in Technical Communication,” which won the Conference on College Composition and Communication Outstanding Dissertation Award in Technical Communication. My work has appeared in Computers and Composition, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Technical Communication Quarterly, Programmatic Perspectives, and Peitho: Journal of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric & Composition. (My older publications can be found under the surname Frost.) The same theoretical commitments that inform my research also guide my teaching; I hope my students describe me as fair, collaborative, curious, and open-minded.
